Dominic McLaughlin, the 11-year-old Scottish actor set to play Harry Potter in HBO’s upcoming series, has revealed his shock after receiving a handwritten note from Daniel Radcliffe while travelling to Glasgow.

McLaughlin told BBC’s Saturday Mash-Up! Live that he was on a train when his father quietly handed him the envelope.

«It was insane,» he said. «My dad tapped me on the train and just gave me this letter.»

Only when he reached the bottom of the page did he realise it was signed «Dan R.»

Radcliffe, who played Harry Potter across eight films, recently confirmed he had written to McLaughlin to offer encouragement without overshadowing the new cast. Rupert Grint has also reached out to his successor, sending a message to Alastair Stout, the new Ron Weasley.

McLaughlin said production on the HBO series is going «amaszng» and that he has already formed close friendships on set. He won the role after an audition process that drew more than 32,000 hopefuls. The new adaptation, starring McLaughlin alongside Stout and Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger, is scheduled to premiere in 2027 on HBO and Max.
