Global demand for air cargo increased by 8.5% in October compared with the same month last year, according to a new report from the International Air Transport Association (IATA), obtained by Kursiv Uzbekistan.
IATA noted that passenger traffic within Asia delivered exceptional momentum, with sharp increases on routes to and from China, Japan and Vietnam. Each of these corridors recorded annual growth above 10%.
The association added that part of the strong expansion in the Middle East reflects a low base in 2024, when geopolitical tensions and disruptions to flights held back performance. IATA also highlighted continued improvement in air freight, where annual growth reached 4.1%. The sector has now expanded for eight consecutive months, supported by a 5.3% rise in global trade and stronger industrial output.
Airlines in the Asia Pacific region reported an 8.3% jump in cargo demand year on year in October, while their available capacity grew by 7.3% over the same period.
Cargo volumes rose on most major routes during the month. Declines were recorded only on traffic between North America and Asia and within Europe. The strongest gains were seen on Europe–Asia services.
Kursiv also reports that Uzbekistan’s My Freighter has launched its first cargo flight from Wenzhou’s Lucheng International Airport in Zhejiang province, eastern China, to Tashkent.
