President Shavkat Mirziyoyev told at the Sustainable Energy conference that Uzbekistan will commission thousands of industrial and infrastructure facilities by 2030. Foreign investment in these projects is expected to exceed $150 bn.
He said more than 800,000 new flats will be built in the Yangi Uzbekistan residential districts and all of them will be designed to be energy efficient. Such large-scale development will sharply raise demand for electricity. To meet the needs of households and industry the country plans to bring online 17,000 MW of new green energy capacity by 2030 which will lift the share of renewables to 54%.
Mirziyoyev highlighted a major step in this direction with the rollout of 3,500 MW of green generation worth $3.3 bn across Karakalpakstan and the Bukhara Kashkadarya and Tashkent regions.
He added that Uzbekistan has begun introducing a public private partnership model for electricity supply this year. Under the plan the Samarkand Regional Power Networks company will be transferred to the management of the Turkish firm Aksa Elektrik.
The authorities expect that foreign oversight will save about $20 mln a year and the investor will also be responsible for upgrading the infrastructure.
The president also noted that financing for the Kambar Ata 1 hydropower plant will start next year alongside plans to develop solar power stations using Chinese technology.
