Uzbekistan’s deputy prime minister Jamshid Khodjaev has said he expects South Korean businesses to take an active role in major development projects across the country, including the new international airport and key rail links, according to comments reported by Yonhap.

During his visit to South Korea, Khodjaev said he hoped to see cooperation broaden in areas such as supply chains, renewable energy, infrastructure and transport as well as information technology.

He noted that more than 680 joint Uzbekistan–Korea enterprises are currently operating in the republic. Khodjaev added that thanks to ongoing reforms the Uzbek economy has doubled in size over the past eight years.

South Korea is already involved in the construction of the new airport in Tashkent which is scheduled to open in 2029. Hyundai Rotem will also supply $198 mln worth of high speed trains alongside training programmes for Uzbek specialists who will maintain the rolling stock.

Trade between the two countries exceeded $1.4 bn by early November 2025 compared with $1.6 bn a year earlier. South Korea remains among Uzbekistan’s top five trading partners.
