Uzbekistan Signs Long-Term Deals with JOGMEC, ITOCHU, Sumitomo and Sojitz

During his official visit to Tokyo, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with executives from JOGMEC and ITOCHU, including Ichiro Takaharu and Jun Inomata. Discussions focused on expanding practical cooperation and implementing joint projects using advanced Japanese technologies.
The work of JOGMEC and ITOCHU in developing uranium deposits in Navoi and Kashkadarya regions was highly praised, and plans for precious metal extraction at prospective sites were reviewed. Uzbekistan’s long-term collaboration with ITOCHU in engineering, geology, and infrastructure was also highlighted, alongside agreements for exporting critical minerals to Japan.
New initiatives in technology and social sectors
Emerging areas of cooperation were identified, including water purification, automotive manufacturing, air traffic management modernisation, and public-private partnership projects in the social sector.
President Mirziyoyev also met Shingo Ueno, president of Sumitomo Corporation, to discuss strategic projects in energy and industry. The launch of two solar power plants with energy storage in Samarkand was noted, with plans to accelerate wind energy projects in Karakalpakstan. Agreements were reached on producing high-voltage cable products and upgrading ambulance fleets. A Cooperation Programme with Sumitomo until 2030 was proposed.
Focus on energy, infrastructure and healthcare with Sojitz
The president welcomed Masayoshi Fujimoto and Kosuke Uemura from Sojitz Corporation to discuss expanding collaboration and joint projects. Priority projects include a combined-cycle power plant in Syrdarya, a multipurpose hospital, a new international airport in Tashkent, and a wind farm.
Other initiatives supported involve modernising medical clinics, educational facilities, developing a cross-border green energy corridor, upgrading gas compressor stations, and establishing a special economic zone for Japanese investors.
