Uzbekistan has signed a market access protocol with Russia as part of its ongoing process to join the World Trade Organization. The agreement was signed by Uzbekistan’s WTO representative Azizbek Urunov and Russian Minister of Economic Development Maxim Reshetnikov.

Urunov described the discussions as long but constructive, expressing gratitude to the Russian team for their cooperation.

He added that the step was essential for further progress, noting, «While some work still remains, we are now fully focused on advancing multilateral negotiations, completing the necessary legislative upgrades, and successfully concluding the accession process next year.»

Tashkent will now focus on negotiations with other WTO members, aiming to complete its membership in 2026.

The World Trade Organization is an international body that oversees global trade rules. It has 166 members accounting for 98% of worldwide trade.

Kursiv also reports that Uzbekistan has expressed concern that its accession to the WTO is progressing more slowly than expected.
