Egyptian, Iranian Foreign Ministers Discuss Bilateral Relations and Nuclear File
Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi held phone talks on Wednesday focused on strengthening bilateral relations and recent developments surrounding Iran’s nuclear programme.
According to a statement from Egypt’s Foreign Ministry, the two sides agreed on the importance of continued consultation and coordination between Egypt and Iran in a manner that serves their mutual interests.
The discussion also addressed the status of Iran’s nuclear file, with Abdelatty stressing the need to de-escalate tensions and resume dialogue aimed at reaching a comprehensive agreement that safeguards the interests of all parties and supports regional security and stability.
Cairo has previously played a mediating role on the issue. In September, Egypt hosted talks that led to an agreement between Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency to resume cooperation after a period of suspension.
The call comes amid heightened regional tensions following a brief but intense conflict in June, which ended under a US-sponsored ceasefire, underscoring the urgency of diplomatic engagement on the nuclear issue.
Kursiv Uzbekistan also reports that thousands of people gathered in Bethlehem on Christmas Eve, marking the city’s first full celebration after two years of subdued observances during the war in Gaza.
