
Uzbekistan national football coach Fabio Cannavaro will carry the Winter Olympics torch through Naples on December 24, NBC News reports.
Former footballer Ciro Ferrara will also take part in the ceremony. NBC News noted that both athletes are natives of Naples. The torch relay will then pause for the Catholic Christmas celebrations.
The day before, actor Jackie Chan joined the relay. He has previously served as a torchbearer at both the Summer and Winter Olympic Games held in Beijing.
The relay began in Rome on December 6 and will conclude on February 6, the day of the opening ceremony at Milan’s San Siro stadium. The Olympic flame will travel across Italy, including Sicily and Sardinia.
The 25th Winter Olympic Games will take place in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo from February 6 to 22. Around 3,500 athletes from more than 90 countries are expected to compete.
According to the International Olympic Committee, ski mountaineering will make its Olympic debut in Italy, with medals awarded in men’s women’s and mixed relay events.
