Uzbekistan and Tajikistan are working on expanding cross-border cargo transport, including the launch of a new logistics corridor linking China, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. The plans were discussed at a meeting of the two countries’ joint commission on international road transport held this week in Samarkand.
The talks focused on easing bottlenecks at the Jartepa–Sarazm border crossing. Officials agreed that increasing its capacity is key to supporting higher freight volumes and faster movement of goods between the two countries.
Participants also reviewed the idea of running pilot shipments along the China–Tajikistan–Uzbekistan route. The corridor could open additional transit opportunities for regional trade and strengthen Central Asia’s role in east–west logistics.
Another priority involves modernising the permit system for international road transport. The two sides discussed switching permits to a digital format and expanding their overall number to simplify procedures for carriers.
