The YouTuber-turned-boxer was knocked out by former two-time world champion Anthony Joshua in the fifth round of their bout, after being dropped twice before a decisive right hand ended the fight. Paul later revealed that his jaw was fractured in two places and required surgery.
Speaking after the fight, Jake Paul said the recovery has been difficult. «I’ve got four plates in my jaw. It’s hard to sleep because when I lie down my jaw shifts and wakes me up,» he explained, adding that the injury was «part of the sport».
Despite the setback, the 28-year-old insists he is not considering retirement and plans to return to the ring later this year, once medically cleared. He was suspended indefinitely by the Florida Athletic Commission following the knockout and must receive approval before competing again.
Paul has also hinted at future heavyweight ambitions, even calling out Francis Ngannou, although advisers have suggested a return to cruiserweight may be more realistic. His loss to Joshua has already seen him dropped from the WBA cruiserweight rankings, ending any immediate hopes of a world title challenge.
The fight came after Paul’s planned bout with Gervonta Davis was cancelled, setting up the unexpected clash with Joshua that ultimately proved a step too far.
