Speculation around the future of Gianpiero Lambiase has grown in recent months, with questions raised over his role at Red Bull beyond the end of last season. Following the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, sources told that discussions over his position in 2026 would take place during the winter, influenced by personal circumstances.

Those factors also explain why Lambiase missed the Austrian and Belgian grands prix and why he showed visible emotion after the final race of a demanding campaign. He has since been linked with rival teams, including Aston Martin and Williams, reflecting his strong reputation within Formula 1.

Lambiase is best known as Max Verstappen’s race engineer and the voice heard on Red Bull’s team radio, but his responsibilities extend further as the team’s head of racing. He will continue in both roles at Red Bull this year.

That does not fully rule out a potential move in the longer term. No final decisions have been taken regarding interest from other teams, and senior figures are often tied to contracts or placed on gardening leave. Lambiase is contracted to Red Bull until the end of 2027.

The situation mirrors previous cases such as Will Courtenay, who eventually joined McLaren as sporting director after Red Bull agreed to an earlier release from his contract.

Meanwhile, Verstappen’s engineering group is seeing gradual change. Several long-serving staff have accepted roles elsewhere, including David Geoffrey Mart at Audi. Performance engineer Tom Hart will remain with Red Bull through 2026 before moving to Williams in 2027. Changes have also occurred among the mechanics, with Audi recruiting Verstappen’s lead mechanic Matt Caller last year for its Formula 1 project led by former Red Bull executive Jonathan Wheatley.

Kursiv also reports that Sergio Perez has opened up about his time at Red Bull and the challenges of racing alongside four-time champion Max Verstappen.
