
The Producers Guild of America (PGA) has announced its nominees for the 37th Annual Producers Guild Awards, sharpening focus on the race for best picture ahead of Oscar voting.
The guild’s top honour, the Darryl F. Zanuck Award for Outstanding Producer of Theatrical Motion Pictures, is widely seen as one of the strongest indicators of Academy Awards success. Seventeen of the past 22 winners have gone on to claim the Oscar for best picture.
Warner Bros. Leads Film Lineup
This year’s theatrical category features a mix of prestige directors and commercial titles, with Warner Bros. securing three nominations and sharing a fourth as co-distributor. Nominated films include Yorgos Lanthimos’ «Bugonia,» Guillermo del Toro’s «Frankenstein,» Sam Mendes’ «Hamnet,» Ryan Coogler’s «Sinners,» Paul Thomas Anderson’s «One Battle After Another,» Zach Cregger’s «Weapons» and Joseph Kosinski’s «F1,» produced and financed by Apple Original Films.
Netflix earned nods for «Frankenstein» and the indie drama «Train Dreams,» while A24’s «Marty Supreme» and Neon’s «Sentimental Value» also made the list. «Sentimental Value» was the only non-English-language film nominated in the category.
Among the notable omissions were Universal Pictures’ «Wicked: For Good,» James Cameron’s «Avatar: Fire and Ash,» Richard Linklater’s «Blue Moon,» Craig Brewer’s «Song Sung Blue» and Jafar Panahi’s «It Was Just an Accident.»
Animation and Television Categories
In animation, nominees included sequels and original projects such as «The Bad Guys 2,» «Elio,» «KPop Demon Hunters,» «Zootopia 2» and the anime feature «Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle.»
Television nominations were led by prestige dramas. Contenders for the Norman Felton Award for episodic drama included «Andor,» «The Diplomat,» «The Pitt,» «Pluribus,» «Severance» and «The White Lotus.» Comedy nominees for the Danny Thomas Award featured «The Bear,» «Hacks,» «Only Murders in the Building» and «South Park.»
Limited and anthology series recognised by the guild included «Adolescence,» «Black Mirror,» «Black Rabbit,» «Dying for Sex» and «The Beast in Me.» The PGA also honoured producers across streamed films, non-fiction programming, live and variety shows and competition series, including «The Daily Show,» «Last Week Tonight with John Oliver,» «RuPaul’s Drag Race» and «The Traitors.»
