Son of Uzbekneftegaz Head Appointed CEO of Uzbekhydroenergo

Islam Abdurakhmonov has been confirmed as chairman of the board of Uzbekhydroenergo, the company said following an extraordinary shareholders’ meeting on January 8. He had served as acting head since December 18 and has now signed a three-year employment contract.

Abdurakhmonov replaces Abdugani Sanginov, who led Uzbekhydroenergo since May 2017 and was recently appointed chairman of Uzbekneftegaz. Local media report that Islam Abdurakhmonov is Sanginov’s son.

The new CEO holds degrees in power engineering and economics. He studied at the Moscow Power Engineering Institute from 2008 to 2012, the Tashkent State Technical University between 2013 and 2015 and the Tashkent State University of Economics from 2017 to 2021.

Abdurakhmonov began his career as an engineer during the modernisation of the Talimardjan thermal power plant, later working in urban power grids and energy supervision. From 2018 to 2025, he headed To‘palang HPD Holding.
