Trump Weighs Military Strike Options against Iran amid Protests

US President Donald Trump is considering potential military action against Iran as nationwide protests continue to spread across the country, The New York Times reported, citing official sources.
According to the newspaper, Trump has received several new military options in recent days, including scenarios that would involve strikes on non-military targets in Tehran. While no final decision has been made, the administration is treating the proposals seriously, the sources said.
Protests in Iran began on December 28, initially involving traders and students angered by the sharp depreciation of the national currency and rising prices. The unrest intensified after Central Bank Governor Mohammad Farzin resigned and later expanded to dozens of cities across the country.
Human Rights Activists in Iran estimate that at least 65 people have been killed and more than 2,300 detained, with demonstrations reported in around 180 cities. Time magazine has cited higher figures, putting the death toll at over 200, most of them protesters.
On January 8, Trump warned that the United States was ready to deliver a «powerful strike» if Iranian authorities continued to kill demonstrators. Writing on Truth Social, he said Iran was «seeking freedom like never before» and signalled US readiness to support the movement. Senator Lindsey Graham echoed the message, telling Iranians that US backing was already on the way.
