Masdar Secures Financing for 300-MW Solar Project with Battery Storage in Uzbekistan
Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company PJSC (Masdar) has reached financial close for its 300-MW Guzar solar power project with a 75-MWh battery energy storage system in Uzbekistan’s Kashkadarya region.
The UAE-based clean energy company secured more than $225 mln in financing, with up to $195.5 mln provided by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and $30 mln from the Asian Development Bank (ADB). The funding packages include contributions from climate-focused funds supported by Canada, Finland and Japan, as well as regional private infrastructure initiatives.
Masdar will design, build and operate the project under a public-private partnership agreement with Uzbekistan’s National Electric Grid. The Guzar facility forms part of Masdar’s broader 2-GW renewable energy portfolio in the country.
The financing agreement was signed during Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week. Masdar said Uzbekistan’s strong renewable resources and supportive regulatory environment continue to underpin its expansion strategy as it targets 100 GW of global clean energy capacity by 2030.
