National Statistics Committee of Uzbekistan has launched the country’s first population census since independence, marking a major step toward building a comprehensive and reliable statistical base for long-term development.

The census will provide updated data on population size and structure, migration, family status and employment, as well as more accurate information on agricultural land use and livestock numbers. Officials outlined the goals, timeline and procedures at a briefing held ahead of the launch.

Authorities describe the combined population and agricultural census as a key statistical exercise with broad implications for social and economic policy. The results will underpin future government programmes, regional development plans and targeted social measures.

The census will run in two stages from January 15 to February 28, 2026. During the first stage, which lasts until January 31, residents can take part online via census.stat.uz, a format officials recommend for its speed and convenience.

The second stage, from February 4 to 8, will involve door-to-door surveys conducted by authorised local teams using tablet devices. To manage the nationwide operation, authorities have set up 223 coordination centres at national, regional and district levels, while more than 55,000 enumerators have completed training.

As part of preparations, GPS coordinates of over seven million residential properties were mapped across the country in December 2025.

Kursiv Uzbekistan also reports that Central Asia to receive $53 bn for transport infrastructure projects.
