Turkey and Uzbekistan have launched a new «4+4» strategic cooperation mechanism, bringing together their foreign, defence, interior and intelligence institutions in a single framework, as the two countries seek to deepen coordination on security and regional strategy.
The fourth meeting of the Joint Strategic Planning Group was held in Ankara on January 20, co-chaired by Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and Uzbekistan’s Foreign Minister Bahtiyor Saidov.
During the meeting, the sides signed an Action Plan for 2026–2027, formalising cooperation across security, defence, intelligence sharing and internal affairs. Officials said the mechanism reflects a shift toward institutionalised, long-term coordination amid rising regional uncertainty in Eurasia, linking security cooperation with broader goals such as transport connectivity, geo-economic development and strategic infrastructure projects connecting Central Asia and Turkey.
