Ubisoft cancelled six video games, including the long-awaited remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, as part of a major operational reset aimed at restoring growth.

The French publisher has also shut studios in Stockholm and Halifax, delayed seven projects and begun restructuring parts of the business. Chief executive Yves Guillemot said the measures were needed to build a more focused and sustainable organisation.

Shares in Ubisoft fell about 33% after the announcement. The company did not name all the cancelled titles but said they include four unannounced games, most based on new intellectual property, and one mobile project.

The move comes despite strong demand for remakes across the industry, making the shelving of the 2003 hit particularly notable. Ubisoft said rising development costs and tougher competition in the triple-A market were key factors behind the decision.

Going forward, the company will prioritise open-world and live-service games and double down on core franchises such as Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry and Rainbow Six, which it aims to turn into billion-euro brands.
