Kazakhstan significantly increased grain export to Uzbekistan in 2025, with volumes rising by 32% year-on-year to 4.5 mln tons, according to Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (KTZ), the country’s national railway company.
Overall freight traffic between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan reached 32.3 mln tons in 2025, marking a 16% increase compared to the previous year. Export shipments accounted for 13 million tons, up 8.5% year-on-year, KTZ said.
KTZ transported a total of 319.9 mln tons of cargo across its network in 2025, representing a 5.5% increase from 2024. Export volumes rose by 7.1% to 89.2 mln tons, reflecting strong demand for Kazakh commodities.
According to Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Transport, total grain transportation reached 14.3 million tons in 2025, up 31% from 10.8 mln tons a year earlier. Of this volume, 11 mln tons were exported, a 33% increase, while domestic grain transport rose by 26% to 3.3 mln tons.
Officials say the growth underscores Kazakhstan’s expanding role as a key grain supplier to regional markets, particularly Uzbekistan.
