Uzbekistan marked International Clean Energy Day on Monday with a high-level roundtable in Tashkent focused on accelerating the country’s transition to renewable energy through market-based solutions and international best practices.

The event was organised by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in partnership with the Ministry of Economy and Finance of Uzbekistan and brought together government officials, international partners, development institutions and energy experts.

Discussions centred on financial risk mitigation mechanisms for renewable energy projects, with particular attention to Japan’s experience in shifting from Feed-in Tariff (FiT) schemes to Feed-in Premium (FiP) systems and competitive auctions. Participants examined how these approaches could be adapted to Uzbekistan’s evolving energy market.

The roundtable was held within the framework of the joint UNDP–Uzbekistan project «Promoting Innovative Decarbonisation Solutions,» financed by the Government of Japan. Speakers highlighted the importance of policy reform, international cooperation and private sector engagement in advancing clean energy development.

The event concluded with an award ceremony for winners of the national student competition «Let’s Help Our Planet Breathe,» underscoring the role of youth engagement and public awareness in supporting Uzbekistan’s climate and sustainability goals.
