World No.1 Aryna Sabalenka argued with the chair umpire after a controversial hindrance call during her Australian Open semi-final against Elina Svitolina but said the decision ultimately helped her win.

The incident happened early in the match when Sabalenka let out a loud grunt while hitting a forehand. Although the ball landed in, the umpire ruled hindrance and gave the point to Svitolina. Sabalenka protested and asked for a video review, but the umpire stood by her decision.

Speaking after her straight-sets victory, 6–2, 6–3, Sabalenka said she was shocked by the call and confronted the umpire, asking, «What’s wrong with you?» She admitted the decision angered her but said it pushed her to play more aggressively. Sabalenka added that the moment helped her focus and regain control, as she booked her place in a fourth straight Australian Open final.
