Iran is reportedly making preparations to bury the bodies of American soldiers in the event of a U.S. military attack, according to local media citing officials connected to Tehran’s largest cemetery.
The semi-official Mehr News Agency reported that the Behesht Zahra cemetery organisation has set aside land capable of holding several thousand graves on the outskirts of the capital. The move is described as a precautionary step as tensions between Iran and the United States continue to escalate.
The report comes amid renewed warnings from U.S. President Donald Trump, who has threatened military action if Tehran does not curb its nuclear programme and halt the violent repression of protesters. Speaking publicly this week, Trump said powerful U.S. naval forces were moving toward the region but stressed he hoped force would not be used.
Meanwhile, the U.S. Navy’s USS Abraham Lincoln carrier strike group has continued its deployment toward the Middle East, underlining Washington’s military posture.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Tehran remained open to negotiations but insisted talks must be «fair and equitable» and not conducted under threats. At the same time, Iranian state-linked media reported the deployment of hundreds of new strategic drones across the armed forces, a move attributed to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
The reports about burial preparations surfaced as unrest continues across Iran following weeks of protests and a violent crackdown by security forces. Local media have also reported hearing explosions in parts of Tehran, though no official confirmation has been given.
