Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan will hold the first meeting of a newly created Council of Heads of Regions in 2026, aiming to turn bilateral plans into concrete economic and infrastructure projects.
The new platform is designed to enable direct cooperation between regions, with a focus on industrial partnerships, investment attraction, logistics links and agro-industrial development. Officials say the goal is to move beyond framework agreements toward projects that can be implemented quickly at the regional level.
Bilateral economic ties have deepened steadily, with trade turnover reaching nearly $5 billion by the end of 2025, up more than 11% year on year. Both sides have set an ambitious target of increasing mutual trade to $10 bn by 2030.
The initiative gained momentum after the November visit of Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to Uzbekistan, where agreements were signed that depend heavily on regional implementation. The first council meeting is expected to identify priority projects in industry, transport, energy and agriculture, further strengthening cooperation between Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan.
