F1 ACADEMY has confirmed that Chinese driver Shi Wei, also known as ‘Tie Dou’, will return as the first Wild Card entry of the 2026 season.

Shi made history last year as the first Chinese driver to compete in F1 ACADEMY. She will now race on home soil during Round 1 of the 2026 season in Shanghai, where the series runs as a support event for the Chinese Grand Prix from March 13. Shi joins the grid after winning the F4 Chinese Masters, marking the first F4 race victory by a Chinese female driver and a milestone for motorsport in China.

The Wild Card programme, launched in 2024, aims to develop regional talent in the locations where F1 ACADEMY races, giving young drivers from each region the chance to compete. Since its introduction, the initiative has produced 13 Wild Card entries over two seasons, and eight of the 17 full-time 2026 seats are now held by former Wild Card drivers.

Shi Wei said:

«I truly value the chance to return as a Wild Card driver. I will work hard to ensure more people can witness the rise of Chinese women in motorsport. I hope my journey inspires others – racing is not reserved for a few. With persistence, dedication, and passion, anyone can achieve more.»

He Jiandong, Vice President and Secretary-General of the Federation of Automobile and Motorcycle Sports of China, added:

«We are proud of Shi Wei’s performances. Her continued participation highlights the potential of Chinese women in racing. We will keep supporting female drivers and provide a more open pathway for talent.»
