Ten people, including the suspected shooter, have died following a mass shooting at a high school in Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia, on February 10.

The attack, one of Canada’s deadliest mass casualty events in recent memory, saw six people killed inside the school, two more found dead at a nearby residence, and another person dying while being transported to hospital. At least two others sustained life-threatening injuries, and around 25 more were treated for non-critical wounds.

Authorities confirmed the suspected shooter, a woman, died from a self-inflicted gunshot. Police said there are no other suspects and no ongoing threat to the public.

Police Superintendent Ken Floyd described the suspect as «female, wearing a dress with brown hair,» confirming she was the person found dead at the school. Officials did not provide details on whether any victims were minors.

«Multiple injuries and multiple deceased were inside the school as officers progressed through the scene,» Floyd told reporters. «The scene was very dramatic, and there are victims still being cared for.»

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney expressed his condolences, saying on X:

«I am devastated by today’s horrific shootings in Tumbler Ridge, B.C. My prayers and deepest condolences are with the families and friends who have lost loved ones to these horrific acts of violence.»

Tumbler Ridge is a small town of about 2,400 residents, located in the northern foothills of the Rocky Mountains, roughly 1,155 kilometres northeast of Vancouver.
