Two-time Olympic champion Sidney Crosby is once again leading Team Canada into battle, bringing what he describes as a «focused type of confidence» ahead of the men’s ice hockey tournament at the 2026 Winter Olympics.

Crosby, a three-time Stanley Cup winner with the Pittsburgh Penguins, has already claimed Olympic gold twice and remains one of the most accomplished players of his generation. Yet the veteran centreman insists past success guarantees nothing.

«We’re confident, but I think it’s a focused type of confidence,» Crosby said after practice at Milano Santagiulia Arena on Wednesday. «We believe in our group, but we know we have some work to do. It’s going to be a challenge. We understand that, but I think we trust and believe in our group, and we’re excited to get up there tomorrow.»

Canada opens its Olympic campaign on Thursday (12 February), entering the tournament as one of the favourites but facing a highly competitive international field.

Crosby’s leadership will be central to Canada’s medal hopes. Known for his composure under pressure and team-first mentality, the 38-year-old captain emphasized collective effort over individual accolades.

As the puck drops in Milan, Crosby and Canada aim to add another chapter to the country’s storied Olympic hockey legacy — with gold firmly in sight.
