Energy ministers from Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan have held talks aimed at strengthening regional coordination on water and energy management, underscoring growing cooperation across Central Asia.
The meeting brought together Kazakhstan’s Energy Minister Yerlan Akkenzhenov, Kyrgyzstan’s Taalaibek Ibrayev and Uzbekistan’s Jurabek Mirzamakhmudov to review current collaboration and outline future priorities. Discussions focused on ensuring the stable and balanced operation of the regional power system and improving joint resource management.
Officials examined coordination of power generation schedules, compliance with water-use agreements and the development of unified approaches to managing shared resources. Particular emphasis was placed on maintaining stable water flows in transboundary rivers, which are critical for both agriculture and energy production.
The ministers also highlighted the importance of mutual support during seasonal demand peaks and the need for rapid coordination to safeguard regional energy security.
The meeting concluded with the signing of a trilateral protocol formalising the agreements and reaffirming the countries’ commitment to continued dialogue and cooperation. Observers say the talks reflect a broader push to enhance resilience and sustainability in Central Asia’s interconnected water and energy systems.
