Indian cricket fans are flocking to Colombo despite soaring travel and accommodation costs as anticipation builds for Sunday’s blockbuster T20 World Cup clash against Pakistan.

Flights and hotels in Sri Lanka have surged in price following Pakistan’s late confirmation for the match, with some round-trip fares from India rising several times above usual levels. Yet thousands of supporters are still making the trip to witness one of sport’s most intense rivalries.

Travel demand spiked after uncertainty over Pakistan’s participation was resolved just days before the fixture. Even fans who booked early reported paying steep premiums due to high demand surrounding the marquee encounter.

Accommodation prices in Colombo have also jumped sharply, with upscale hotels charging hundreds of dollars per night across the match weekend. Meanwhile, tickets have been difficult to secure, with some supporters waiting hours in online queues.

Despite the expense and logistical challenges, fans say the experience is worth it. For many, an India-Pakistan match carries significance far beyond cricket, symbolising decades of rivalry and national pride.

The high-stakes encounter at Colombo’s R Premadasa Stadium is expected to draw a global television audience, with supporters from both countries creating a rare shared atmosphere at a neutral venue.

For travelling fans, the costs may be steep, but the chance to witness cricket’s biggest rivalry live remains priceless.
