South Korea Shut Out of Medals as Skater and Snowboarder Fall Short at Milano Cortina 2026

Narrow misses in figure skating and snowboarding leave South Korea without a podium finish, though curling victory offers some momentum

South Korea endured a medal-less day at the Milano Cortina Winter Olympics, narrowly missing the podium in both figure skating and snowboarding on Friday.

Figure skater Cha Jun-hwan came closest to securing a medal, finishing fourth in the men’s singles with 273.92 points. He fell just 0.98 points short of bronze after an early mistake on a quadruple toe loop in the free skate, though he recovered with an otherwise clean performance.

In snowboarding, Lee Chaeun placed sixth in the men’s halfpipe at Livigno Snow Park. After struggling in his first two runs, Lee landed all five tricks in his final attempt but could not close the gap to the medal contenders.

There were brighter signs elsewhere, as South Korea defeated Great Britain 9–3 in the women’s curling round robin, improving to a 2–1 record in the 10-team competition.

Meanwhile, skeleton racer Jung Seung-gi finished 10th in the men’s event after four runs over two days.

Despite strong individual efforts, South Korea will look to upcoming events to add to its medal tally as the Games continue.
