The majority of U.S. Department of Justice files related to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein remain unpublished despite recent disclosures, according to a new report by the UK’s Channel 4 News.

Journalists who reviewed internal communications said federal investigators had previously estimated the total volume of material seized from Epstein’s properties at between 20 and 50 terabytes. As recently as 2025, officials reportedly referenced about 14.6 terabytes of archived data still under review.

So far, around 3.5 mln files, roughly 300 gigabytes, have been released, amounting to about 2% of the data investigators discussed last year, the broadcaster reported. A DOJ spokesperson did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

The findings come months after the Epstein Files Transparency Act mandated full disclosure of the department’s records related to Epstein, who died in jail in 2019 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges.

Since the law’s passage, the DOJ has published several large batches of emails, photos and videos, many heavily redacted. In early January, Attorney General Pam Bondi said only about 1% of the files had been released at the time, with staff continuing to review the material.

A recent DOJ letter to Congress listed hundreds of individuals mentioned at least once in the files, including politicians, business leaders and celebrities. Among those named were Donald Trump, Prince Andrew and Bill Gates, as well as deceased figures such as Elvis Presley and Marilyn Monroe. The letter did not clarify how those individuals were referenced, and being named does not imply wrongdoing.

Some lawmakers have criticised the disclosures, accusing the department of releasing irrelevant information while withholding key details. Others who viewed less-redacted versions of the files have alleged improper redactions.

The DOJ has said it has now released all relevant materials in its possession, though questions remain about how much data has yet to be made public.
