Azerbaijan’s participation in the Consultative Meeting Platform of Central Asian Leaders marks a new chapter in regional cooperation, a Turkmen expert said at an international conference in Baku.
Speaking at the C6: One Region, Shared Future – Enhancing Strategic Dialogue forum, Shiri Shiriyev, director of the Center for Strategic Studies at Turkmenistan’s Institute of International Relations, described Azerbaijan’s accession as a step toward deeper integration across the Caspian region.
He said the C6 format is evolving beyond a dialogue platform into a mechanism for developing joint responses to global instability, strengthening economic ties, and expanding humanitarian and expert cooperation.
Shiriyev highlighted growing regional dynamics, including the expansion of Trans-Caspian transport corridors, energy cooperation, and shared environmental challenges, as factors requiring closer coordination among participating countries.
He also stressed the importance of institutionalising the format through formal structures and expert networks to ensure long-term cooperation.
The conference in Baku brought together policymakers and analysts to discuss sustainable cooperation frameworks, regional value chains, and security models based on partnership rather than bloc alignment, with participants expressing hope that the C6 platform will become a driver of integration across the wider Caspian basin.
