Former WBA super welterweight world champion Israil Madrimov confidently returned to the ring after serious injuries and surgeries. On January 24 in Las Vegas, the Uzbek boxer, despite injuries and a short preparation period, defeated Dominican fighter Luis David Salazar by unanimous decision. In a conversation with a journalist from Kursiv Uzbekistan, he summed up the fight, spoke about his recovery, and outlined his future plans.
— Congratulations on the victory. After almost a year-long break, was it difficult to feel the ring again? How do you assess your physical condition?
— Thank you for the congratulations. I feel good now, gradually getting back into shape. Minor injuries remain, but we are working on them and continuing the recovery.

— In 2025 you underwent surgeries on your knee and shoulder. Did the old injuries make themselves felt in the fight with Salazar?
— No, the previous injuries did not bother me. My knee handled the load, and my shoulder did as well. I worked through the fight calmly and will now continue strengthening my form.
— After the fight with Vergil Ortiz, you said you entered the ring not fully healthy. Do you regret that decision?
— No, I don’t regret it. Every fight gives experience. Even difficult situations harden an athlete and teach him to make decisions under pressure.

— In your last fight you looked more restrained. Is this a new strategy with Joel Diaz or the result of the layoff?
— I acted more cautiously due to a right-hand injury sustained in training. I only engaged my main punches in the final rounds. I deliberately avoided unnecessary risk and controlled the pace.
— How many fights do you need to get another title shot? What plan does promoter Eddie Hearn propose?
— This year I’m setting big goals for myself. A title fight is part of the plan. The promoters are already working on it. Possibly the next fight or one of the ближайших bouts could be a championship one. Now we are waiting for concrete decisions and news.
— You are considered the most difficult opponent for Crawford. Is a rematch possible?
— Our fight is still being discussed, especially after his victory over Canelo. Many call our bout the toughest for him. I’m glad I showed a high level and gave him an even fight. That motivates me. If a chance for a rematch appears, I won’t refuse. In boxing, anything is possible.

— Do you plan to stay in this weight class or consider changing divisions?
— For now, I’m staying at super welterweight. I still have tasks here that I want to accomplish.
— How did you cope psychologically after injuries and tough fights?
— Injuries greatly slow an athlete down and sometimes make you think about retirement. It wasn’t easy for me either. Almost a year went into physical and psychological recovery. Now I feel confident and am setting myself serious goals.
— What would you like to say to fans in Uzbekistan?
— I thank everyone who supports us. Their support gives enormous motivation and strength. We will continue to delight you with beautiful victories.
