The Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 has cemented its reputation as a record-breaking supercar, setting the fastest lap ever at Car and Driver’s annual Lightning Lap 2026, GM reports.

At Virginia International Raceway’s 4.1-mile Grand Course, the ZR1 clocked a 2:34.2, outpacing a field of elite production cars. This run extended the Corvette’s dominance at VIR, where driver Aaron Link had already set the Grand Course production-car record last year. The ZR1 also holds production-car lap records at Watkins Glen’s Long Course, Road America, and Road Atlanta, and previously posted a 1:47.7 on VIR’s Full Course.

Link commented, «VIR is a benchmarking tool for our team because it offers challenges few other tracks can match. We were thrilled when K.C. Colwell laid down the fastest lap in Lightning Lap history in a Corvette ZR1. It’s a testament to what the GM team is capable of.»

The ZR1 is powered by a twin-turbo 5.5-litre flat-plane crank V8, the most powerful engine ever offered in a production Corvette. With the ZTK Performance Package, it accelerates from 0-60 mph in 2.3 seconds, completes the quarter mile in 9.6 seconds with a trap speed of 150 mph, and combines carbon-ceramic brakes with an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission for precise handling.
