Ed Skrein joined the cast of Amazon Prime Video’s live-action adaptation of God of War, taking on the role of Baldur. The series is in pre-production in Vancouver and has already been commissioned for two seasons.

Skrein will appear alongside Ryan Hurst as Kratos and Callum Vinson as Atreus. Other cast members include Max Parker as Heimdall, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson as Thor, Mandy Patinkin as Odin, Alastair Duncan as Mimir, Danny Woodburn as Brok, Jeff Gulka as Sindri and Teresa Palmer as Sif.

The drama will follow the storyline of the two most recent God of War games, centred on Kratos as he raises his young son Atreus while confronting figures from Norse mythology. According to the official synopsis, father and son set out to scatter the ashes of Kratos’ wife Faye. Along the way Kratos seeks to guide Atreus towards becoming a better god, while Atreus encourages his father to rediscover his humanity.

Baldur is described as Odin’s youngest son and most formidable weapon. Charismatic and volatile, he is driven by a childhood curse that deprived him of the ability to feel physical sensation. The affliction fuels his anger and hunger for combat, as he searches for an adversary capable of matching his strength.

Ed Skrein’s television credits include Game of Thrones and All the Light We Cannot See. On film he is known for roles in Deadpool, where he played Francis, as well as Rebel Moon, Jurassic World Rebirth and Alita: Battle Angel.
