Apple has announced the iPhone 17e, a new mid-range smartphone that introduces modest upgrades while keeping the same starting price as its predecessor.

The latest model replaces the iPhone 16e and continues Apple’s entry-level lineup following the phase-out of the iPhone SE. The most notable upgrade is the inclusion of Apple’s new A19 chip, bringing the device in line with the current iPhone 17 series in terms of performance.

Apple says the A19 processor offers improved speed and efficiency, alongside a new C1X modem designed to deliver faster connectivity. The iPhone 17e now starts with 256GB of storage, replacing the previous 128GB base tier without raising the starting price, which remains at $599 in the US.

The device also adds MagSafe support, enabling faster wireless charging and compatibility with Apple’s ecosystem of magnetic accessories. Previously, the 16e supported only slower Qi charging.

Design changes are minimal. The phone retains a 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR display and aluminium build but introduces second-generation Ceramic Shield glass for improved durability. Apple has also added a new «soft pink» colour option alongside black and white finishes.

Camera hardware remains largely unchanged, though Apple says updated portrait features provide improved depth and focus control.

Overall, the iPhone 17e represents an incremental update focused on internal improvements rather than a major redesign, offering upgraded performance and features without increasing the price.
