Iran launched a fresh wave of missile and drone attacks on Thursday targeting Israeli and US military positions, as regional fighting escalated following recent strikes by Israel and the United States.

Air raid sirens sounded across Tel Aviv and Jerusalem after Israeli authorities reported incoming missiles. Iranian state media said the strikes also targeted American bases in the region.

In response, the Israeli military said it launched a «large-scale wave of strikes» in Tehran and carried out targeted attacks against the Iran-backed group Hezbollah in Lebanon. Explosions were reported in several areas of the Iranian capital.

Tensions intensified after the US Navy sank the Iranian warship IRIS Dena earlier this week in the Indian Ocean, killing dozens of sailors. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi condemned the attack, warning that the United States would «bitterly regret» the incident.

The conflict has already caused significant casualties across the region, with officials reporting more than 1,000 deaths in Iran, dozens in Lebanon and several in Israel since the fighting began.

Regional tensions have spread beyond the immediate battlefield. Drones and explosions have been reported in nearby areas including Nakhchivan in Azerbaijan, while several Gulf countries have increased security around key infrastructure.

The escalating confrontation has also disrupted global trade and energy markets. Attacks near the Strait of Hormuz, a key shipping route for about a fifth of the world’s oil, have pushed crude prices sharply higher and raised fears of wider regional instability.
