Amazon Prime Video has unveiled the trailer for the fifth and final season of The Boys, confirming that the show will return on April 8 with its first two episodes. The series finale is scheduled to air on May 20.
According to the official synopsis, the final season takes place in a world dominated by Homelander, whose unstable leadership leaves the country under his control. Hughie, Mother’s Milk and Frenchie are being held in a so-called «Freedom Camp», while Annie attempts to organise resistance against the powerful Supes. Kimiko’s whereabouts remain unknown.
The situation changes when Butcher resurfaces carrying a dangerous virus capable of eliminating all Supes. His plan sets off a chain of events that could permanently reshape the world and determine the fate of everyone involved.
Season 4 concluded in July 2024 with a dramatic shift in power after a newly elected U.S. president imposed martial law and effectively handed control of the country to Homelander. Most members of the Boys were captured, with the exceptions of Butcher and Annie, who had regained her Starlight powers and enlisted support from students introduced in Gen V.
The final season’s cast includes Karl Urban, Jack Quaid, Antony Starr, Erin Moriarty, Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles, Jessie T. Usher, Laz Alonso, Chace Crawford, Tomer Capone, Karen Fukuhara, Colby Minifie, Cameron Crovetti, Susan Heyward, Valorie Curry and Daveed Diggs.
The series is based on the comic books created by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson. The television adaptation was developed by showrunner Eric Kripke, with executive producers including Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg.
The upcoming season will bring the long-running superhero satire to its conclusion, with the story building towards what the creators describe as a major final showdown.
