The Federal Bureau of Investigation has arrested a suspect in a major cryptocurrency theft involving funds linked to the United States Marshals Service.

Authorities confirmed that John Daghita was taken into custody on the Caribbean island of Saint Martin in a joint operation involving French law enforcement and U.S. investigators.

According to officials, Daghita is suspected of siphoning more than $46 mln worth of cryptocurrency from government-controlled digital wallets into accounts under his control. The arrest was announced by Kash Patel, director of the FBI.

The case began after a cryptocurrency analyst known online as ZachBXT published an investigation earlier this year linking suspicious transactions to wallets associated with government crypto seizures. The analyst said he traced small «dust» transfers sent to him by the suspect back to digital addresses tied to seized assets.

One of the wallets reportedly contained $36 mln in cryptocurrency connected to a larger $90 million seizure handled by the U.S. Marshals Service between 2024 and 2025.

Investigators believe the suspect may have gained access through connections to a government contractor. Daghita is the son of Dean Daghita, head of the IT company Command Services & Support, which previously held a contract to manage cryptocurrency seized by US authorities.

Officials have not yet confirmed whether the suspect had direct access to the wallets through the company’s work or obtained the credentials by other means.

During the arrest, authorities reportedly recovered a briefcase containing cash and several digital security keys believed to be linked to cryptocurrency accounts.

Daghita has been taken into federal custody but has not yet been formally charged as the investigation continues.
