Lewandowski’s Future at DHS Uncertain after Kristi Noem’s Dismissal

The longtime Trump adviser says no decision has been made about his role at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security after the dismissal of Kristi Noem

The future of Corey Lewandowski at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security remains uncertain following the dismissal of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem.

Lewandowski, who has worked closely with Noem in recent months, told reporters that «no decisions have been made» about whether he will continue serving in a voluntary role at the department. Despite speculation about his departure, he publicly praised Donald Trump and declined to criticise the president’s decision to remove Noem from the post.

Multiple media reports suggest Lewandowski is expected to leave the department alongside Noem, although no official announcement has been made.

During Noem’s tenure, Lewandowski was accused by some former officials of wielding significant influence behind the scenes, with critics alleging he played a key role in personnel decisions and contract approvals within the agency. Supporters, however, have defended his involvement as part of efforts to streamline operations.

Noem’s leadership at DHS was marked by several controversies, including criticism over a costly advertising campaign and disputes related to immigration enforcement operations. Rumours about a personal relationship between Noem and Lewandowski also circulated during her time in office, which both have dismissed.

Following Noem’s removal, Trump announced that Markwayne Mullin has been nominated to become the next Homeland Security secretary. The appointment is seen by analysts as an attempt to stabilise the department after months of internal tensions.

Whether Lewandowski will remain involved in the administration or leave government service altogether is expected to become clearer as the leadership transition unfolds.
