Mercedes Rival Horner With Bid for £448 Mln Alpine Stake

Mercedes-Benz have emerged as a surprise contender for a stake in the Alpine F1 Team that is also being pursued by Christian Horner.
According to Telegraph Sport, Toto Wolff is leading a bid to acquire a 24% share in Alpine currently owned by Otro Capital. Alpine adviser Flavio Briatore previously confirmed that Horner is also interested in the stake as part of a consortium.
Mercedes already supply Alpine with engines and gearboxes under an agreement running until at least 2030. Any investment could deepen cooperation between the teams, although the Renault Group would retain its controlling 76% share.
Otro Capital reportedly values Alpine at £1.5 bn to £1.86 bn, putting the 24% stake at about £448 mln. Its investors include Anthony Joshua, Rory McIlroy and Trent Alexander-Arnold.
The rivalry between Wolff and Horner adds intrigue to the potential deal. Horner, dismissed by Red Bull Racing last year after 20 years in charge, has said he wants to return to Formula One as a partner rather than an employee.
