The Super Mario Galaxy Movie has expanded its voice cast with several new stars, including Donald Glover, who will voice the green dinosaur Yoshi.
Newly announced cast members also include Luis Guzman as Wart and Issa Rae as Honey Queen. The additions were revealed by Chris Meledandri during a Nintendo Direct livestream on Monday, which also debuted a new trailer for the animated sequel.
Chris Pratt returns as the voice of Mario, who heads into space in the follow-up to The Super Mario Bros. Movie.
Other returning cast members include Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek.
The sequel also introduces Benny Safdie as Bowser Jr. and Brie Larson as Princess Rosalina, a character first introduced in the 2007 video game Super Mario Galaxy.
After defeating Bowser in the first film, Mario, Luigi and Peach return for a new adventure, once again confronting the Koopa king and his son. The story takes the characters beyond the Mushroom Kingdom and into space, where they travel across a series of planets including a volcanic world, an underwater planet and a neon-lit technological landscape filled with gravity-defying challenges.
In the trailer, the Mushroom Kingdom heroes join forces with Rosalina and Yoshi, the egg-laying dinosaur known for his trademark cry of «Yoshi!». Wart, Honey Queen and the fan-favourite character Birdo also appear as adversaries.
The film is directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic and will be released in cinemas on April 1 by Universal Pictures, Illumination and Nintendo.
