A swarm of drones targeted a coalition military base in Erbil overnight, injuring several US soldiers, while British special forces helped intercept some of the incoming aircraft, UK officials said.

According to the UK military, personnel believed to be members of the Special Air Service shot down two «kamikaze» drones aimed at the base used by coalition forces fighting Islamic State.

However, several other drones penetrated the air defences and struck the facility.

Brigadier Guy Foden confirmed the incident, saying:

«Last night they shot down two UAVs coming at the camp, but a number of UAVs did impact on the camp.»

The UK’s Chief of Joint Operations, Nick Perry, said there were no British casualties, although U.S. personnel sustained minor injuries.

The attack came amid wider regional escalation linked to the conflict between Iran, the United States and Israel.

Elsewhere, two oil tankers caught fire in Iraqi waters after what security sources described as Iranian attacks using explosive-laden boats. One crew member was reported killed.

The incidents followed additional strikes on merchant vessels across Gulf waters and attacks on energy infrastructure in several countries. Drone strikes were reported at oil storage facilities in Salalah, while authorities in Muharraq reported damage to fuel tanks near the airport.

Saudi Arabia also said it intercepted drones targeting the Shaybah oilfield.

The renewed attacks pushed global oil prices higher again, with Brent crude rising back above $100 per barrel amid fears of major supply disruptions.

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump said the Strait of Hormuz remained secure, despite reports that Iran may have deployed mines in the channel.

The escalating attacks on shipping, energy facilities and military bases have heightened concerns that the Middle East conflict could trigger a broader global economic shock.
