Formula 1 has confirmed that the Bahrain and Saudi Arabian Grands Prix scheduled for April will not take place due to ongoing instability in the Middle East. No replacement races will be arranged during that month, and the decision also affects Formula 2, Formula 3, and F1 Academy rounds.
The announcement was made in consultation with the FIA and race promoters. Stefano Domenicali, Formula 1 CEO, said the decision, though difficult, was necessary for the safety of all involved and expressed gratitude to the FIA and promoters for their understanding.
FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem emphasised that the wellbeing of the motorsport community is the priority, adding that Bahrain and Saudi Arabia remain vital to the championship and he looks forward to returning when conditions allow.
Officials from both circuits also expressed support. Sheikh Salman bin Isa Al Khalifa of the Bahrain International Circuit thanked Formula 1 and the FIA for their partnership and pledged to welcome fans back once races resume. HRH Prince Khalid bin Sultan Al-Abdullah Al-Faisal of the Saudi Automobile and Motorcycle Federation said the Kingdom respected the decision and remained committed to working closely with Formula 1.
