Jannik Sinner claimed his first Indian Wells title, defeating Daniil Medvedev 7-6(6) 7-6(4) in a flawless display under the Californian desert sun. The Italian dominated the match with 28 winners, 10 aces and a perfect eight out of eight at the net.

With the win, Jannik Sinner became only the third player to secure all six ATP Masters 1000 hard-court titles, joining Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer. He also became the first player since 1990 to win consecutive Masters 1000 titles without dropping a set, extending his winning streak in this category to 11 matches, dating back to his Paris victory last November.

How the game unfolded

The opening set was fast-paced, with Medvedev pressing aggressively. The Russian reached 6-5, but Sinner forced a tiebreak and edged ahead when Medvedev misplayed a forehand volley at 5-4, closing the set on his second set point. The second set mirrored the first, with Sinner taking a 3-2 lead after a dominant fifth game. Medvedev fought back to 6-6, forcing a tiebreak, but Sinner recovered from a 0-4 deficit to win 7-4, sealing the match in straight sets.

«I kept believing and kept pushing,» Sinner said. «I went for my shots a little more. A third set, we would have started even, so I tried my best to close it out and I am very happy. It was an incredible ending.» He added, «It was a very, very tough match. It is great to see Daniil back playing this level. I am very happy. I came here from day one, training really hard and this result makes me very happy.»

Medvedev reached the final after stunning world number one Carlos Alcaraz in the semi-finals, ending the Australian Open champion’s 16-match winning streak for the season. However, the Russian has now lost three Indian Wells finals.
