Irish actress Jessie Buckley turned heads at the 2026 Academy Awards with a custom Chanel gown inspired by a classic Hollywood moment.

Buckley, who won the Oscar for Best Actress, wore a baby-pink dress with an off-the-shoulder wrap neckline in contrasting red. The design echoed the silhouette of the gown worn by Grace Kelly at the 1956 Oscars.

Kelly’s dress, featuring a flocked floral skirt, was created by legendary American costume designer Edith Head. The 1956 ceremony marked the final time Kelly appeared in Hollywood before marrying Prince Rainier III of Monaco the following month.

In the 1950s, before celebrity stylists and major brand partnerships became the norm, film stars often relied on costume designers to create their red-carpet outfits. Head was also responsible for the pale-blue satin gown Kelly wore when she won Best Actress for The Country Girl in 1954.

The designer collaborated with Kelly on several iconic films, including Alfred Hitchcock’s Rear Window and To Catch a Thief, helping define the actress’s timeless screen style.

Buckley’s Chanel look brought that golden-age glamour back to the modern Oscars red carpet.
