President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has reviewed the completed construction of the Imam Bukhari Memorial Complex in Samarkand, describing it as a major spiritual and cultural project for the country.

Rebuilt on the initiative of the head of state, the complex reflects the legacy of Imam Bukhari, one of the most revered hadith scholars in the Islamic world. Authorities said the site has been modernised to accommodate pilgrims while preserving its religious significance.

A new tourists center has been created on a 15-hectare area surrounding the complex, featuring hotels, guest houses and service facilities. The infrastructure now allows the site to host up to 65,000 pilgrims per day, up from 12,000 previously.

The expanded complex spans 45 hectares and includes a mosque for 10,000 worshippers, an administrative building and a traditional ayvan with 154 columns. A high-tech museum with nine pavilions showcases Imam Bukhari’s life and scientific legacy, as well as broader Islamic history.

Officials highlighted that the site aims to serve not only as a place of pilgrimage but also as a centre for education and духовное просвещение. Mirziyoyev stressed the importance of promoting the scholar’s teachings among young people and strengthening religious education programmes.

The president proposed holding the upcoming Ramadan Hayit prayer at the new mosque, marking the completion of the project and its opening to the public.
