Global spending on aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul is expected to increase from $140 bn in 2026 to $193 bn by 2036, according to figures presented at the MRO Central Asia Conference Uzbekistan 2026.
Maintenance costs account for roughly 10 to 13% of airlines’ operating expenses, with the strongest growth anticipated in engine servicing, component repairs and airframe maintenance.
Separate estimates from Spherical Insights suggest the global aircraft maintenance market could reach $139.4 bn by 2033, expanding at an average annual rate of about 4.6%.
The sector covers both line and heavy maintenance, as well as engine and component repairs. Its growth is being supported by advances in artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things and predictive maintenance technologies, alongside the expansion of low-cost carriers and air cargo operations.
Industry growth is expected to be driven by rising passenger traffic and the continued expansion of airline fleets. Carriers are also investing heavily in maintenance and upgrades to improve efficiency and meet regulatory standards.
