Uzbekistan to Expand Digital Access with Satellite Internet for Remote Areas

Uzbekistan is entering the next phase of its digital development by connecting remote regions through satellite internet, Prime Minister Abdulla Aripov announced at the Digital Qazaqstan 2026 forum in Shymkent, according to Digital Business.
Aripov noted that the country has nearly eliminated digital inequality, with broadband coverage now reaching 99.5% of the population. The focus is shifting to areas where traditional infrastructure is difficult to deploy.
A pilot satellite internet launch is planned for 2026, and operators will benefit from a package of tax incentives designed to accelerate adoption and lower service costs.
Satellite connectivity is expected to provide reliable internet access in mountainous and isolated regions, while also enhancing the resilience of the national digital network.
In addition, optimising government operations and consolidating data has not only reduced public spending but also laid the groundwork for artificial intelligence development, Aripov said.
«Consolidating e-government systems into a single data centre has saved 30 per cent of the budget. The next step is expanding capacity, and we are completing the deployment of a large computing cluster,» he added.
