Oracle Launches Sweeping Global Layoffs Amid AI Expansion

US tech giant Oracle Corporation has begun a major round of layoffs affecting thousands of employees worldwide, as the company accelerates investment in artificial intelligence infrastructure.
Workers across several countries, including the United States, India, Canada and Mexico, reported receiving termination notices on Tuesday. Internal accounts and media reports suggest that between 10,000 and 30,000 jobs could be cut, potentially impacting up to 18% of Oracle’s global workforce of around 162,000 employees. In India alone, as many as 12,000 roles may be affected.
The company has not officially confirmed the full scale of the layoffs. In regulatory filings, however, Oracle said it would cut hundreds of positions in Washington state as part of a broader «reduction in force».
Employees said the layoffs were not performance-related, with many receiving early-morning emails informing them of immediate termination and limited severance. Senior engineers, project managers and technical specialists are among those affected.
The job cuts come despite Oracle reporting strong recent financial results. However, its shares have fallen sharply this year, prompting analysts to suggest workforce reductions as a way to improve cash flow.
The restructuring is widely linked to Oracle’s aggressive push into AI. The company plans to spend at least $50bn on infrastructure in 2026 and has raised additional debt to support growing demand for data centres.
Oracle is also a key partner in the $500bn Stargate initiative alongside OpenAI and SoftBank Group, aimed at expanding AI computing capacity in the United States.
Industry-wide, layoffs have continued across the tech sector as companies redirect resources toward AI. Firms such as Amazon and Meta Platforms have also announced job cuts this year, highlighting a broader shift in workforce strategy driven by automation and emerging technologies.
