Tiger Woods has announced he will step back from his professional and public commitments after a recent DUI charge linked to a car crash in Florida. The golfer said he intends to focus on his health and enter treatment to ensure long-term recovery.

«I recognise the seriousness of this situation,» Woods wrote on X. «I need to take time to prioritise my well-being and work toward a stronger, healthier future. I ask for privacy for myself and my family during this period and appreciate the support of everyone who understands.»

Authorities reported that Woods’ vehicle clipped a pickup truck before rolling over. At the time of his arrest, he had two hydrocodone pills in his possession and was reportedly looking at his phone and changing the radio. His attorney entered a not guilty plea in court on his behalf.

This is not Woods’ first serious car incident. He suffered major leg injuries in a 2021 rollover crash in Los Angeles, including multiple fractures and a broken ankle. He was also arrested in 2017 on suspicion of DUI after being found asleep in a running vehicle and later admitted to self-medicating with prescription drugs following spinal surgery.

The 47-year-old golfer, a former world number one, last competed professionally in 2024.
